I managed to acquire some decent watercolour pencils during Black Friday sales. I figured today was as good a day as any to attempt Tskara’s (my Iplehouse E.I.D. doll) face up. I bought Faber Castell’s Art Grip Aquarelle set of 24 watercolours. At the time, I thought a set of 24 would be more than enough. However, now I’m thinking the one up from the 24 would have been better as I don’t feel I have enough colour choices. The pencils are beautiful though and grip well. Also they have nice colours which show up beautifully on darker skin tones (Tskara is light brown skin tone).
Whilst her face is sealed I haven’t sealed the face up so I can wipe it off and keep practicing (this being my third attempt). I feel that the more I practice the better I will become and eventually I’ll reach a stage where I can confidently get a nude doll and make absolutely beautiful face-ups. I do own an airbrush and I can use it but my free time is social time. Working on face-ups in front of other people is easier with pencils, especially as I don’t want them breathing in spray paint!
Once I feel I have gotten to a stage where I’m happy with her face up I will seal it. She still needs eyelashes and I would like to get her some earrings and head jewellery. Currently her eyes are temporary until I can get some of the smaller 10mm Eyeco’s or 12mm Mako eyes (they specialise in lifelike doll eyes). I did buy some alpaca hair to make a wig but I’ve misplaced it and I’m certain it’s tucked away in a remote corner somewhere.
I suppose my biggest issue that I have is doing all this practice and I still haven’t figured out what Tskara actually looks like. Looks like I’ll need to spend some time drawing.
